ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

From the artistic style of the icon as well as from available history. It appears that this shrine is a very ancient one. It is believed to be the same idol which minister Sri Tejpal of King Viradhaval while carrying out repairs to a large fortress here, after building a magnificent Jain temple, got ceremonially installed therein. It is also said that this idol remained for a long time under water which all of a sudden appeared during the period of Raja Sagardutt Sarthawah who on being impressed by the sight and miraculous nature of the idol built a magnificent temple and got the idol once again ceremonially installed therein. The last renovations to the temple were carried out in Vikram year 1990.

This majestic idol of Sri Parshva Prabhu though made of sand, in spite of remaining under water for long, long time did not show any sign of disintegration by a single particle of sand. Not only that, but also it showed itself contrary to all known rules and principles of nature to have gained hardness of steel where upon the devotees began to call it “LOthan Parshvanath “ It is said that at one time this place was a large city. A reference is available to the effect that in Vikram year 1320, minister Sri Pethadshah built here a grand temple of Sri Chandraprabhu Bhagwan. This is the birth place of Sri Munichandrasurishvarji, the Guru of Sri Validevsuriji who composed the famous volume of Jain logistics entitled “Syadvad Ratnakar”. The king among logicians Upadhayay Sri Yashovijayji Maharaj entered transition here in Vikram year 1743.
