SHRI SEMALIYA TIRTH

PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :

Sri Shanthinath Bhagwan seated in a lotus posture, in black color of height approx, 47 inches made of sand located in a shrine in Semaliya village. (Shve).

ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

The temple was built when and by whom is difficult to find out as there are no inscriptions on the idol. But the idol definitely looks to be one during the time of King Samprati.

It is said that the miraculous idol made of sand was sanctified by King samprati who also built the temple.

It is also been said that at one time, this temple was brought here in Yatiparya as in the case of Rajasthan where a temple was brought in Nadulayi village. Also four pillars of the temple were brought down from the sky.

It is referred that the temple was renovated in Vikram year 933 by Shravak Bheema and again in Vikram year 1533. The last renovation was started since few years which are still going on.

The four artistic pillars are in the temple even today where one can find the year 933 inscribed on them. No inscriptions are found on the other pillars. It looks like a lot of destruction has taken place in the temple. Hence the four pillars were renovated again.

Every year the Dhvaja ceremony takes place in Chaitra Sukla 13. Since Vikram year 2015, every year on Bhadrava Sukla 2, there is “Ami-Jharna” in the temple continuously. It is said that for many years the Ami was in the form of Milk but since a few years it is in the form of water. Many devotees gather to have a look and worship this miracle. This is one of the importances of this place, as it is very rare to see “Ami-Jharna” continuously on the same day every year.

There is no other temple apart from this temple.
