SHRI KUMBHOJGIRI TIRTH
PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :
Shri Kagvallabh Parshvanath Bhagwan, in white color, seated in a lotus posture, of height 1 meter in a shrine on a small mountain in the jungle. (Shve).
ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :
It is difficult to know the true antiquity of this shrine but the temple was ceremonially consecrated after repairs and renovations on Maha Sukla 7 in Vikram year 1926. Swetambers call it Mt. Shatrunjay of South Maharashtra. Festival fairs are held here on Kartik and Chaitra Poornima and also Posh Krishna 10 every year when devotees in thousands gather to participate in prayers and worship. The shrine located on the top of a small mountain appears magnificent and beautiful and ever green fields below in the surrounding small villages also appears pleasing and attractive from the mountain top.
There is one more Digamber temple here nearby and a Swetamber temple at the Foot-hills of the mountain.
APPROACH – ROUTE :
The nearby railway station is Hathkalangde on Kolhapur-Miraj rail line from where the shrine is 8 Kms away. Buses, autos and taxis are available here. From Kolhapur, Sangli and Miraj the shrine is 30 Kms and it is located on Kolhapur-Miraj road. There is a tar road upto the shrine and there are 360 steps made for ascent. The total time taken is about 15 minutes.
AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :
There is a dharamshala at the base of the mountain with all facilities and a bhojanshala for meals are available. On the mountain also, adjacent to the temple, there is a dharamshala but only water and electricity are available here, dry snacks are also available. At the base of the mountain separate Upashrayas are there for Sadhus-Sadhvijis and a Meditation Hall too.
