SHRI JIYAGANJ TIRTH
Presiding Deity and Location :
Shri Sambhavnath Bhagwan in white color seated in a lotus posture and of height 38 Cms in a shrine at Oswal Patti, on the main road in the village of Jiyaganj (Shve).
ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :
This temple is believed to have been built about 150 years ago but the icon is an ancient one. It is one of the “Panchtirthi” of Bengal. Several wealthy Jains with their families from Murshidabad had come and settled here making the village both prosperous and populous. These families had actively participated in various activities of social welfare and religious celebrations.
Besides this there are three other temples nearby. The architecture of the temple and the art and sculpture work of the idol are praise worthy. In the nearby temple of Sri Vimalnath Bhagwan, there are many old hand drawn pictures which are beautiful.
APPROACH – ROUTE :
On road as well as rail line Jiyaganj is 200Kms away from Kolkota. From the temple, Jiyaganj station is 1 Km away where rickshaws are available. Murshidabad is 7Kms, Burhanpur is 14Kms and Katgola is 4Kms away. It is convenient to visit the shrines of Azimganj and Kathagola from here. Jiyaganj is also known as Balachur. Buses and cars can ply right upto the temple gate. Thelocal, bus stand Fulatulla is ½ Km away. In the town also, rickshaws and taxis are available.
AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :
For lodging there is a dharamshala in the nearby temple courtyard of Sri Vimalnath Bhagwan, where water, electricity, bhojanshala for meals and arrangement for “Ayambil” etc are available. A free snack by way of “Bhatha” is given to pilgrims in the dharamshala.
