SHRI RAMTEK TIRTH

Presiding Deity and Location :

Sri Shanthinath Bhagwan in golden color, in a standing posture, of height 3.04 meters in a shrine outside the city of Ramtek about 1.5 Kms away (Dig).

ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

The story of this shrine goes back to pre-historic times. According to Jain scriptures, its history is contemporaneous with that of 20th Tirthankar of the present cycle of time Sri Munisuvratswami. Acharya Ravisen while mentioning about the building of thousands of Jain temples in Vamshgiri in his composition entitled Padmapuran has suggested that the same Vamshgiri later had changed to Ramgiri.

Towards the end of 16th century, Bhattarak Gnansagarji in verses 95 and 96 of his compositions “Sarva Tirth Vandana” has sung about the significance of Sri Shanthinath Bhagwan seated in Ramtek and has further asserted that he is the giver of all that one desires.

Adjacent to this temple, there are 8 more temples and high majestic commemoration pillar (Mana stambh).

The architectural style displayed in the construction of these Sikhars is ancient., incomparable and unique which compels attention.

APPROACH – ROUTE :

The railway station is Ramtek which is 5 Kms away from the temple where rickshaws and taxis are available. Nagpur is around 48 Kms from this shrine.

AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :

Outside but adjacent to the compound wall of the temple, there is a large dharamshala where all facilities are available.. A bhojanshala is shortly going to be started here.
