Situated in the Jiyaganj village, about 200 km from Kolkata this temple houses a 38 cm tall idol of Shree Sambhavnath Bhagwan.

Brief History

Although the temple was built 150 years ago, the idol of the ‘Moolnayak’– Shree Sambhavnath Bhagwan is said to be much more ancient. This is one of the 5 tithi’s in the ‘Bengal Panchteerthi. The architecture & sculpture of this temple is a visual delight. Other than this, there are 3 more temples. The temple of Shree Vimalnath Bhagwan is particularly famous for its beautiful hand – painted pictures.

History of Shri Jiaganj Teerth 
The history of Shri Jiaganj Teerth states that Shri Jiaganj Teerth is a very ancient teerth. Jain religion has been famous here. Ruins of many Jain temples have been found here that prove the antiquity of the place. Murshidkulikhaan had been appointed as the minister or diwan of states of West Bengal, Bihar and Orissa by Aurangzeb in 1600. Their capital was situated at Dhaka. The teerth had a predominant place for the Jain traders for the rich port city Baloochar (Azimganj Jiaganj). Kathgola, Baloochar (Jiaganj) and Azimganj were assigned the Zamindar of the region. The Jagatseth (Gelada), Nawlakha, Singhi, Dugar, Kothari, Nahar, Dudhodia and Golechha clans shouldered the responsibilities of the state. After an invasion in 1608 Murshid Quli Jafar Khan made Laalbaug his capital. It was named as Murshidabad district after him. It is said that Lord Mahavira had preached the people here in this teerth kshetra. Thus in his memory many Jain temples had been built here. The idol of Lord Parshvanatha is believed to possess miraculous powers and is visited by thousands of Jains and non Jains from far off places. They come here to offer their prayers to the Lord and receive his blessings. It is believed that if prayed with all devotion the Lord fulfils the wishes of the pilgrims. 

Temple of Shri Jiaganj Teerth 
The temple of Shri Jiaganj Teerth houses the idol of Lord Parshvanatha. The Swetambara temple has been beautifully decorated with intricate designs. These stand as unique example of ancient art and boast about the skills of the craftsmen. The walls and pillars of the temple are adorned with specimens of ancient art and paintings. The idol of the Lord is 38cm in height and is white in colour. It is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved from a single stone and looks very appealing. The smiling face of the Lord looks very calm and serene.
