SHRI KADAMBGIRI TIRTH

PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :

Shri Adishvar Bhagwan in white color, seated in a lotus posture, of height 2 meters, in a shrine on mount Kadambgiri in quiet solitude near Bodanones village (ancient name Kadambpur) which is about 19 Kms from Palitana. (Shve).

ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

The antiquity of this shrine is connected with mount Shri Shatrunjay. It is considered to be one of its peaks. In the three circulatory pilgrimages of Mount Sri Shatrunjay, the one of 12 “Kos” (38 Kms) includes this shrine also. Shri Kadamb Muni one of the maindisciples of Sri Nirvaniprabhu, the 2nd Tirthankar of the previous set of 24 Tirthankars, attained liberation here along with several other saints and that is why this mountain is known as Kadambgiri.

This shrine is one of the Panch Tirthi of Shri Shatrunjay shrines. It is of special significance because of the liberation of Sri Kadamb Muni and several other saints as stated earlier.

On the mountain, there are two other temples nearby of which the Presiding Deity are Sri Neminath Bhagwan and Shri Simandhar Swami. There are two small single room shrines on the peak of the mountain in which are enshrined the footprints of Shri Nirvani Prabhu and Sri Kadamb disciple (Ganadhar). On the mountain there is another temple opposite to which new idols in great number, both small and large and in different styles and postures are stored all of which are worth seeing. In the village of Badanones at the base of the mountain there is a beautiful and large temple of Shri Mahavir Prabhu.

The idol of Shri Adinath Bhagwan in this temple on the mountain is magnificent and impressive. The natural scenery on and from the mountain all around is extremely pleasant.

APPROACH – ROUTE :

The nearby railway station of Palitana is 19 Kms away where buses, taxis are available. Nearby villages of Bhandaria and Bodanones are 8 and 4 Kms away respectively. The ascent to the Mount commences from Bodanones. Cars and buses can come upto the temple in Bodanones.

AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :

There is a dharamshala for lodging near the temple in Bodanones with all facilities and a bhojanshala for meals. There is also the facility of chair-carriers available. To carry one up on the top of the mountain.
