SHRI KURKUTESHWAR TIRTH
PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :
Shri Kurkuteshwar Parshvanath Bhagwan seated in a lotus posture in black color of height 77 Cms in a shrine located in Kurkuteshwar village. (Shve).
ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :
This shrine is around 2860 years old during the time of Sri Parshvanath Bhagwan. The village Kukuteshwar was earlier known as Kurkuteshwar. It has been said that the king of nearby village Rajpur, Sri Eeshwar, established the town during the time of Sri Parshvanath Bhagwan and also built the temple. Hence naming the town as Kurkuteshwar and the temple as Sri Kurkuteshwar Parshvanath.
In reference to the sacred granth, Kalpasutra, before attaining Keval Gnan, Sri Parshvanath Bhagwan had established shrines like Kalikund, Kurkuteshwar and Jeevitswami during his visit. Hence, its antiquity is proved.
Renovations are required from time to time. Hence it must have been renovated. There is a reference that in Vikram year 1676 this shrine was renovated and consecrated.
There are difference reasons behind this shrine being named as Kurkuteshwar. The construction of the temple believed the Prabhu to the lord of Kurkut. Also the Vaahan of the Guardian Deity, Sri Padmavati Devi, of Sri Parshvanath Bhagwan is Kurkut Snake. One of the ancient God’s names is also said to be Kurkut.
There is also a reference of many miracles happening in different times.
There is another temple of Sri Adinath Bhagwan here. By worshipping the ancient idol of Bhagwan, worshippers are filled with happiness and joy.
APPROACH – ROUTE :
The nearby railway station are Neemach 40 Kms away, Pipalya 52 Kms, Mandasor 71 Kms and Khalavad Road 140 Kms away. There is a facility of buses and taxi from all these stations.
