ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

From the ancient relics art in the temple, pillars and “Parikar” it becomes evident that the shrine may be of a period earlier than 10th Vikram century. A metal cast idol showing all present 24 Tirthankars made in Vikram 12th century is found in the temple. During the Muslim period, this temple must have been considerably damaged like many other temples. There is however an inscription available that renovation to the temple were carried out again in Vikram year 1649.

It is said that during the period of Raja Vikramaditya this place formed one of the mohollas of the city of Ujjain and the palace of King Vikramaditya adjacent to which there was the Queen’s palace which today is still known as “Ranikot” was located.

Much corroboration are found about a number of miracles having happened here. It is said that once some tourists tried to cook meat near the shrine. Immediately rain of stones showered on them from invisible sources which made them run too far places leaving everything. Once some Jain householders wished to take away the idol to the city of Ujjain. After negotiation with the custodians of this temple, they went inside for prayers and worship and found a Cobra near the idol giving the signs of refusal. They therefore abandoned the idea altogether. Devotees narrate still many such stories of continuing miracles.

The idol of Sri Parshvanath Prabhu is not only artistic but celestial. There are two cobras’ below the found palms of both hands which is unusual. IN the temple, even on pillars best specimen of ancient art are visible. The complete “Parikar” and the artistic “Prastar Khand” etc., of the 11th Vikram century are worth seeing.

There is no other temple nearby besides this one.
