Mulnayak: Shri Chandraprabhu Swami is the Mulnayak Bhagwan here. Nearly 98 cms. high
alluring Parrikar – yukt, black – coloured idol of Bhagwan Dokadiya Parshvanath in the Padmasana
posture. The idol is beside the idol of Shri Chandraprabhu Swami. There is an umbrella of 9
fascinating hoods over the head of the idol.
Tirth: It is in Prabhas Patan town close to the sea – shore.
Historicity: This is a very ancient and famous town. In medieval times, this town was known as
Devpatan, Somnathpatan and Chandraprabhas Patan. It is said that this city was established by
Bharat Chakravarthy and this temple was built when he learnt that a Samosaran of the future 8th
Tirthankara Shri Chandraprabhu Bhagwan will be set up here. In the 13th century, Shri Kumarpal
Maharaja built the temple of Ashtapadji here. When Vallabhipur was destroyed in V.S.845, the idol
of Bhagwan Chandraprabhu Swami was brought from Vallabhipur and installed here. There were
many temples here which were destroyed during the Muslim invasion. Many temples were
converted into Mosques. The idol of Dokadiya Parshvanath, which is very impressive and
miraculous, is beside the idol of Chandraprabhu Swami. There is a story behind the name
Dokadiya Parshvanath. A Shravak, who was the first person to do Pooja of Dokadiya Parshvanath
daily, used to find a "Dokada" (currency of that period) in the palms of Bhagwan daily. This incident
continued for many days. One day he told about this incident to another person. The next day, the
dokada was there but it got stuck in the palm of Bhagwan and even today we can see the coin in
the palms of Bhagwan. Hence, this Parshvanath came to be known as "Dokadiya Parshvanath".
This Parshvanath is also known as "Dada Parshvanath". The devotees have great faith in this
miraculous and influential idol of Dokadiya Parshvanath. In the basement of this temple, there is a
temple of 45 Agams (the main scriptures of Jainism). All the Agams are beautifully written on
copper plates.
Other Temples: There are 7 temples close by to this temple. There is also 1 temple in the town.
Works of art and sculpture: The sight of this temple located near the sea-shore is extremely
pleasing. The temple art is captivating. The large seating and worshipping hall flanked by nine
sanctums is unique, superb and unparalleled. The antiquity of the temple is known from the ancient
art visible in the temple. From several artistic creations appearing on the walls, sides and interior of
mosques, it becomes evident that old temples may have been converted into mosques. A visit to
this beautiful and ancient temple is a must. The famous Somnath temple, where the first Jyotirlinga
out of the 12 holy Jyotirlingas is, is 5 kms. away from here.
Guidelines: The nearby railway station of Veraval is 7 Kms away where buses and taxis for
transport are available. The town bus-stand is close to the temple. There is a tar road upto the
temple and buses and cars can go upto the temple. Dharamshala and Bhojanshala facilities are
available here. Chorvadi Tirth is at a distance of 25 kms. from here. The Gir forest and National
Park of Gujarat is at a distance of 50 kms. from here. Asiatic lion and Chinkara are found in this
park. Delvada, Una, Div, Mangrole, Girnar Tirth etc. are very close from here.
Scripture: A mention of Dokadiya Parshvanath is made in "Tirthmala", "Sashvat Tirthmala", "Godi
Parshvanath Stavan", "Shri Parshvanath Naammala" etc. "Shri Dokadiya Parshvanath Bhaas" was
written by Shri Samaysundar Upadhyayji Maharaj. There is an idol of Dokadiya Parshvanath in
Jiravala Tirth.
