SHRI BHADAINI TIRTH
PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :
Shri Suparshvanath Bhagwan in white color, seated in lotus posture and of height 68Cms (Shve) and
Shri Suparshvanath Bhagwan in white color, seated in lotus posture and of height 46Cms (Dig) in shrines located on the bank of Ganga, about 1.5 Km away from Bhelpur (Banaras). The spot is also known as Jain Ghat.
ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :
The place is a part of Banaras City which is known as Kashi from ancient time. History of this city commences with the 1st Jain Tirthankar, Sri Rishabhdev a portion of which is narrated whicle writing about Bhelupur shrine. On account of intensely meritorious confluence of circumstances when the soul of Nandhishena after completing his two previous incarnations entered the womb of queen Prithvi, wife fo the king ofIkshvaku dynasty named Parishtha on Bhadrapad Krishn a Ashtami during the rule of Anuradha constellation, queen Prithvi saw in sleep, dreams indicative of the birth of a Tirthankar. As the pregnancy period was over she delivered a baby boy carrying the sign of Swastik. God in heavens led by their king Indra celebrated the event of this birth with great joy.
On attaining youth, the boy was married and enthrusted with the kingdom. In the course of time during the rule, he one day felt an intense longing for Diksha. For full one year before the Diksha, he gave away all his wealth in charity finally renouncing worldly life in the gardenof one thousand mango trees along with other one thousand kings. Wandering then as a recluse, he returned after nine months to the same garden and entered into deep meditation under a “Sarisa” tree and attained Keval Gnan after destroying Karmas. Gods of heaven led by their chief Indra arranged at that time for the construction of Samosaran.
In this way, this holy place has the good fortune of having four Kalnayaks of the present 7th Tirthankar Sri Suparshvanath Bhagwan and because of this, it is possible that many temples might have been built here inages past. At present, however, there are only two temples, existing as already stated earlier remindful of the old glorious history of this place.
Importance of the shrine has been described and therefore no one should miss the opportunity of having a visit during this human incarnation which has come about at last after innumerable ordeals. A prayerful contact with such a holy place even for a few moments gives invaluable peace to one’s disturbed soul.
The scene fo these temples on the bank of ganga is beautiful. The slow murmuring sound of the river which flows by,adds superb music to the peaceful atmospheres prevailing here giving one a feeling that the river too joins you as a devotee muttering the name of God. Besides this temples, there is no other temple nearby.
APPROACH – ROUTE :
Varnasi Railway station is 4Kms away, where taxis and autos are available. Cars and buses can go upto about half a furlong from the temples.
AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :
For lodging, Swetamber and Digamber dharamshalas are available, but it is advisable to stay in Varanasi and visit here for worship.
