SHRI GUNAYAJI TIRTH

PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :

Shri Gautam Swami maharaj seated in a lotus posture, in white color and of height 30cms in a shrine about 3Kms from Navada Railway Station in Gunayaji village, from main road approximately 200 meters, in the middle of a lake.(Shve)

ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

In the history of Rajagirh, a holy shrine named “Gunashil Chaitya” is described and according to one opinion that place may be this “Gunayaji” as colloquialised. Bhagwan Mahavir, several times visited this place and gave sermons seated in Samosarans. According to another opinion, this is the place where the first and the chief disciple of Bhagwan Mahavir, Sri Gautam Swami attained Kewal Gnan. Anyway, this holy place is very significant because it is contemporaneous to Bhagwan Mahavir. As “Gunayaji” is believed to be a colloquial term of “Gunashil” where Bhagwan Mahavir had paid several visits and further as Sri Gautam Swami, his first and chief disciple attained here Kewal Gnan, the place has its own special importance.

The architecture of this temple reminds one at once of the Pavapuri Lake-temple. Also opposite the temple there is a Toran which is very attractive. (“Toran” is a decoration by way of an arch generally at the top of gates.)

APPROACH – ROUTE :

Nearest Railway Station is Navada 3 Kms away. The Navada village is 2 Kms. Gunayaji is a small place on Patna-Ranchi main road from where the temples is only 250 meters away. Cars and buses can go up to the temple. Gunayaji is 23Kms from Pavapuri.
