SHRI VIJAYMANGALAM TIRTH

PRESIDING DEITY AND LOCATION :

Sri Chandraprabhu Bhagwan in black color, seated in a semi-lotus posture and of height 30 Cms in a shrine in Vastipur Mottaigopuram in the middle of a large walled compound located to the north of village Vijamangalam (Dig).

ANTIQUITY AND SALIENT FEATURES :

During 6th Century A.D. this being a capital town was the central place of the 24 cities of Kongunadu. A reference is available about this large and artistic temple having been built here by Raja Konguvelir. The place was also known as Karumbunadu. There is a reference that the shrine in remote past was known as Virsanghatperupalli. At present, the temple is being looked after the Government Archeological Department. However prayers and worship are being offered according to Jain rites and rituals.

In the 6th century A.D. there existed here an Association of Tamil Pandits out of whom idols of five are made and installed in this temple. One of the principal volume of ancient Tamil literature entitled “Perunkadai” was composed here.

People of this area call the temple as “Amandeshvar Mandir” and it reminds one of the great religious favor and zeal of Raja Konguvelir who built it.

The architectural style of the temple is beautiful. The high Sikhar n the entry gate is a memorial to the glory it once used to be. On the pillars and on the ceiling are delicately and exquisitely carved the Panch profound meditation. The images of Sri Adhinath Bhagwan and goddess Ambika Devi is mind captivating and very artistic in this temple.

There is no other temple, besides this one, in the area.

APPROACH – ROUTE :

The nearby railway station of Viajymangalam is at a distance of 5 Kms from here. It is convenient for pilgrims to come here by a bus from Erode which is 25 Kms from the shrine, located from Erode- Tirupur main road. Buses and cars can go upto the temple. Vijaymangalam bus stand is about 1 Km from the temple.

AMENITIES FOR JAIN PILGRIMS :

There are at present no arrangements for lodging here. But on advance intimation lodging facilities can be arranged for.
