Historicity: In medieval times, Patan was known as Anhillpur Patan. One day, when Sidhraj Jaisingh, King of Patan, was on a ride on his elephant, he saw Acharyadev Shri Abhaydevsuriji entering the city. Seeing the Acharya, the king got down from his elephant and bowed his head in respect to the Acharya. The Acharya’s white clothes had turned the colour of mud.
The presiding deities of Sankheswar Parshvanath have committed to worship this idol of Shri Koka Parshvanath for 4 ghadis (ghadi meaning a period of 24 minutes) at dawn. During this period, prayers offered to Koka Parshvanath would bear the same fruit as praying to Sankheswar Parshvanath Bhagwan himself. The devotees worship Koka Parshvanath with great faith and devotion and all their wishes are fulfilled.Knowing this, the king gave the title of “Mulldhari” to the acharya who came to be known as “Mulldhari” Acharya Shri Abhaydevsuriji”. The great Acharya Shri Hemchandrasuriji was a disciple in Mulldhari Acharya’s Paat Parampara. Once he came to Patan for Chaturmaas and used to go to Gimta (Dhrut basti) daily for giving lectures. One day he was not allowed to give lecture there by the pujari which was a great insult for the Jain community. Koka Seth gave land for building a new temple there and the idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath was installed in it. This Parshvanath came to be known as Koka Parshvanath after Koka Seth. The king of Malwa defeated King Bhimdev of Gujarat and ransacked Patan. The victor damaged the idol of Lord Parshvanath. Shri Ramdev and Shri Ashadhar decided to install a new idol of Lord Parshvanath. Two efforts of carving the idol from marble proved fruitless. So Ramdev made a vow to fast until the idol of Parshvanath Bhagwan was carved to his satisfaction. With this determination, he started his observation of fast. Guru Maharaj also joined him in this ordeal. On the 8th day of their fast, the presiding deity appeared in his dream and showed him the place where the required marble for the idol is. Marble of high quality was obtained when the said place was dug. The idol of Parshvanath Bhagwan was made from that marble. The temple was renovated and the consecration ceremony was done by the revered hands of Acharya Shri Devanandsurishvarji. This idol of Parshvanath Bhagwan then came to be known as Koka Parshvanath.
