Mulnayak: Nearly 70 cms. high brown – coloured idol of Bhagwan Kankan Parshvanath in the Padmasana posture.
Tirth: It is in Dhandherwada in Patan. Today, Kankan Parshvanath is mainly known as Kalikund Parshvanath.
Historicity: This is a very ancient temple. This temple was built by Jain Sangh around V.S.1700. This miraculous idol of Kankan Parshvanath is believed to be of the period of King Samprati. Kankan Parshvanath is also known as “Kalikund Parshvanath” and “Vinchhia Parshvanath”. There is a belief that if a devotee worships this idol of Kankan Parshvanath by a garland of flowers, the devotee will never have the fear of a scorpion sting. There is a picture of a scorpion painted on the wall of the temple. A flag is hoisted every year on the 2nd day of the bright half of the month of margshish.
Other Temples: There are 2 other temples here. One temple is of Shri Dhandher Parshvanath and is popularly known today as “Shyamala Parshvanath”. It is believed that Maharaja Kumarpal used to do “Snatra Pooja” daily in front of this idol. The other temple is of Bhagwan Mahaveer.
Works of art and sculpture: This is a very beautiful and ancient temple. The carvings and paintings on the walls at the entrance of the temple is artistic and very beautiful. The idol of Parshvanath is very alluring and miraculous. it is said that serpent and scorpion sting is cured by worshipping this idol of Parshvanath and by applying “Naman” (bath water of the idol) to the stung part of the body. The Parrikar behind the idol is artistically carved. This is one of the oldest idols of Kalikund Parshvanath also known as Kankan Parshvanath.
Guidelines: The railway station of Patan is at a distance of 1.5kms. from the temple in Dhandherwada. Bus and private vehicles are available.
Scripture: A mention of Kankan Parshvanath is made in “365 Shri Parshvajin Naammala”, “Shri Sankheswar Parshvanath Chand”, “Patan Chaitya Paripati”, “Subhadra Sati ka Raas”, “Shri 108 Parshvanath Bhagwan ka Chand”, “Pattan Jinalaya Stuti” etc. There is an idol of Kankan Parshvanath in Radhanpur, in Shri Ajitnath Bhagwan temple in Bhoyara Sheri and in Shri Kalikund Parshvanath temple in Santacruz, Mumbai.
